Mercy Center for Women

For their launch party, the women on We Choose Joy decided to raise funds for the Mercy Center for Women in Erie, PA. Between book sales, raffle ticket sales, and general donations that night, they raised over $1500 for the organization.

Mercy Center for Women is a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas and is committed to enhancing the dignity of each person it serves through the healing of body, mind, and spirit. They provide:

  • Safe and supportive transitional housing, education and support services for homeless women with or without children.
  • Safe and supportive permanent housing, education and support services for men, women and children experiencing homelessness.
  • Connections with social service agencies and volunteers to form a network of ongoing support, mentoring and education for residents.
  • An environment based on spirituality, responsibility and ethical values.

Young Adult Survivors United

The authors of Unleashing Your Soul-Level Magic have selected Young Adult Survivors United to support with the proceeds from their book. YASU has the largest community in Western PA for young adult cancer survivors and their co-survivors (with virtual programming outreached on a national level), providing them the ability to cope and thrive from emotional, social, and financial support under professional guidance and with peers who understand and can relate.

The book Unleashing Your Soul-Level Magic is an anthology (group book) with stories gathered by Cori Wamsley. This book features 12 authors sharing their stories of how they overcame a huge challenge in their lives by digging deep into their innate gifts to rise above.

Kindleigh

The nonprofit Kindleigh set out to make the world a better place one act of kindness at a time. They perform acts of kindness for fellow charities and individuals. Whether it’s handing out flowers in Central Park, abandoning art for a stranger to find in Los Angeles, getting critical supplies to the homeless in NYC or gathering school supplies for foster kids in South Florida, Kindleigh finds a way to light the dark by shining a beam of kindness.

Living Kindly is an anthology with stories collected by Leigh M. Clark, the founder of Living Kindly. These stories feature acts of kindness in the lives of the authors and the impact that rippled out from them.

The Backpack Program

The Backpack Program benefits children who may not have meals to eat at home and rely primarily on the meals they receive at school for sustenance. Many of the schools in the Pittsburgh, Pa., area benefit from the Backpack Program, which sends weekend meals home with these children. Native Pittsburgh author Fran Cain selected this charity to support with sales from her book King Kindness of Kandu.

Alina’s Light

Alina’s Light honors Alina Sheykhet’s legacy by raising awareness and promoting domestic violence education through outreach, scholarships, and donations.

Alina’s mother Elly began the nonprofit and has since written two books that support Alina’s light, one about Alina’s story and the other featuring the stories of multiple mothers who have also lost children.
