I see you. Ducking out early to go swimming. Chilling on your deck in the evening. Sipping wine by the lake. Doing laundry that could wait till later. Reorganizing your sock drawer.

Yeah. And you feel the guilt from it, too.

And nobody needs that.

I realize that you are telling yourself that you need to do housework and that you need to take care of the kids and that you need to take care of yourself. And ALL of that is true. But, you also need to write your book. If you don’t do it, no one else will do that either.

If you want to have something to work with this fall, you don’t have to put your life on hold to get something done on your book. In fact, when you are relaxed is the best time to do something like this. That’s when you get the best ideas because you are happy and not all clouded by the stuff that needs done.

On the flip side, though you need to do housework and care for the kids, you also have to carve out time for that book.

So here are some ways you can get writing no matter where you are.

  • Write your outline in a journal.
  • Speak a chapter on the notes in your phone.
  • Type on your laptop when you actually have it with you.

Don’t feel like you need to have a two-hour block set aside to work. Sometimes, just 10 minutes is enough to work through a thought or clarify the outline for a chapter. And you don’t have to work linearly either. Jump around to the chapter that inspires you most if you want.

Now, here are some ways to get you excited enough about writing that detailing your car isn’t more appealing . . . unless it REALLY needs done.

  • Reread what you’ve already written.
  • Focus on your why by reading notes on your purpose or talking with an ideal client.
  • Write a shorter piece for your business (an article or blog), and then return to writing your book.

You can’t use beautiful weather or housework as an excuse to avoid something you’ve been wanting to do. Something that you can use as a client and media connection tool that will boost your business and help you uplevel your career!

And if you feel guilty about spending time doing other things instead of writing your book, just remember that this is a cycle that you can easily break.

  • Start planning out time to work on the book or planning ahead and bringing materials with you when traveling.
  • When you catch yourself procrastinating, ask yourself why. Do you need a break? Do you really need to vacuum the whole house? The answer might be “yes,” but don’t continue to put it off. Take your break, and return to your book.

Also, stop feeling guilty. You really DO need to take a break. And enjoying the beautiful weather is good for you. BUT, it’s also about balance to get through your project successfully!
